2010 Stanford jazz festival 39th season press release Stanford, CA – May 10, 2010: A jazz lover’s paradise, Stanford Jazz Festival has been presenting world-class jazz on the Stanford campus in Palo Alto since 1972. The Festival’s 39th six-week long season begins on Friday June 25 with A Night of Brazilian Jazz! headlined by quadruple-Grammy nominee Luciana Souza, and concludes on Saturday August 7 with hometown hero pianist Taylor Eigsti’s concert celebrating his new Concord Jazz recording, Daylight at Midnight (and also includes a special pre-Festival preview performance by Dick Hyman on June 16). The Stanford Jazz Festival has a distinctly personal flavor and charm built upon its association with Stanford Jazz Workshop’s summer Jazz Camp and Jazz Residency education programs. The Festival’s concerts take their inspiration from the leading names in jazz, past present and future, who teach at the Workshop by day and gather to play in unique combinations never heard elsewhere by night. With the same passion for the music with which he put together the first ad hoc convergence of jazz players and listeners on the Stanford campus almost forty years ago, Festival founder and Artistic/Executive Director Jim Nadel crafts a handpicked array of performances, featuring the top names in jazz (Joshua Redman, Nicholas Payton, Dave Douglas), revered elder statesmen (Freddy Cole, George Cables, Junior Mance) and stars on the ascent (Taylor Eigsti, Julian Lage, Gerald Clayton). Many of the Festival’s hottest young players are also veterans of SJW’s education programs.
