“A wonder-producing quintet — they
drum, they dance, they chant, they slap and pat their torsos and
limbs, they make visual music that fills a room with physical excitement.” – The
San Francisco Bay Guardian
Keith Terry's body percussion combines
drumming, dance, theater, and performance art into a wholly unique
musical experience that’s
loved by audiences of all ages. By using his own body as a musical
instrument—clapping his hands, stomping his feet, singing,
drumming on his chest, and producing an astonishing variety of sounds—Terry
communicates the rhythmic energy that is the beating heart of musical
traditions all over the world. As a percussionist working with the
original Jazz Tap Ensemble, Terry became fascinated by the overlap
between the two art forms; the movement inherent in drumming and
the rhythmic music of the dancers' bodies inspired him to explore
the intersection of both worlds. The Crosspulse Percussion Quintet,
Terry's ensemble of body musicians, brings together diverse cultural
influences and expresses them through the most universal medium:
the human body. They drum, dance, sing, and play a variety of instruments,
taking audiences on a high-energy world tour. Kids are captivated
by the contagious energy of their interactive performances and inspired
to discover music that they can make themselves.
