Education Encounter with
Donald Harrison
Recently,
alto saxophonist Donald Harrison was featured at an Encounter,
delighting those present with his engaging mix of jazz standards,
mainstream arrangements and New Orleans traditional music. Harrison,
an alumnus of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, grew up in New Orleans
and is an integral part of its artistic community, working with
local youth through the Tipitina's Foundation, for which he serves
as Project Coordinator and Artistic Director. Harrison was accompanied
by a trio of young musicians, Victor Gould, piano (19); Max Moran,
bass (18) and Joe Dyson, drums (17), all of whom were hand picked
by Donald and are mentored by him as well.
