Along with presenting top quality jazz music for listeners to enjoy,
the Stanford Jazz Workshop is committed to creating an environment
where future generations of performers and educators come together
to learn and grow. Each year, our Jazz Mentors program offers six
to eight talented young performers (students from some of the nation’s
premier music schools and handpicked by our faculty), the opportunity
to work with experienced SJW teachers in an internship capacity.
As is consistent with the tradition by which jazz music is passed
down from generation to generation, these “teachers in training” then
foster the talent of those younger than they, developing a warm rapport
in the process. Welcome this year’s emerging educators in concert,
introduced by trombonist and SJW faculty member Wycliffe Gordon.
